This week felt so long! I can barely even remember what happened each day because so much happened! But here are the funny highlights:
We went on exchanges this week and I was with Sister Ketchum in my area. Little bit of background, Sister Ketchum was supposed to serve in Russia but due to some health limitations she ended up coming to Washington. She still learned Russian in the MTC though, so she speaks pretty well. Well... there are a lot of Russians in Federal Way. We were knocking doors and little Russian grandma (the russian word is babooshka) answered the door. Sister Ketchum jumped into Russian mode and they started to talk. Well somewhere along the way, not sure where because I had no idea what they were saying, Babooshka got very passionate and started yelling and crying and the worst grabbing me! Sister Ketchum was just standing there all calm listening and this Russian lady is grabbing me and yelling all sorts of random stuff! To say the least I was absolutly terrified haha and was just trying to feel what she was saying. Then all of the sudden she turned to me and got super mad and grabbed my arms and got within inches of my face and started yelling some more! I was just shocked and stood there dumbfounded, while this little Babooshka screamed and spit all of my face... After what felt like an eternity, she calmed down and Sister Ketchum started talking to her again. Just when I thought it couldn't get any weirder it did, because Sister Ketchum started singing a hymn to this lady in Russian. I picked up the tune and figured out she was singing I Know that My Redeemer Lives. Hahaha then the lady started to yell and flail around again... So here we were on this Babooshka's doorstep.. She was freaking out, my companion was just standing there trying to sing over her, and then me not sure whether to cry or laugh my head off. It was insane. After we finally got out of there, Sister Ketchum busted up laughing and told me that she was yelling because I was standing there looking at her but I didn't speak Russian. It was quite the experience. Next random event was we were driving in a neighborhood and I saw a little baby in a stroller and it was literally the cutest baby I have ever seen in my entire life... I pulled over super fast and told Sister Orr we had to go see it!! We jumped out and met the family. They were also from Russia. I wish I had a picture of this baby. He had the biggest blue eyes and had a little curl of hair sticking out from his little bear jacket. I just about died. I asked what his name was. Vadeshlav. Haha adorable little Vadeshlav! It was a real tender mercy that day, because we had spent most of the day finding and no one was very interested. Also an update on Bree and Tim. We had a lesson with them about the Word of Wisdom and they have some struggles with it. They are progressing well though, and Bree is hooked on eternal families. It is just so cool to see how the Spirit can change people's views on anything. We are hoping they will come to church soon:) All and all it was a crazy eventuful week! Hope you are all doing well! Love ya! Your Sister in Christ, Sister Northrup
